Rabbi Lawrence Kushner, a prominent religion writer and teacher, says moving helped shape the person he is today.
Kushner, who spent 30 years in Boston after moving from Michigan, said he "needed some distance from the love of my parents" before he could learn who he really was.
Although it is not necessary for everyone to reposition themselves geographically, he said, the act of separating one's self from one's parents is a psycho-spiritual task of life.
