Heroes Come in Small Packages

Chihuahua saves baby from rattlesnake.

First of all, what an adorable red-headed little baby.

And look at the proud, chillin' expression on the dog's face. Do you think he knows he did something amazing?

For all the animal hatas out there, and people who categorically hate entire group of animals (like little dogs), this little pup saw a rattler poising to strike his owners' grandbaby, and jumped between them to take the bite. Would you have done that? What a badass little hero.

Yes, but why was the snake trying to bite the red-headed baby?

In honor of this heroic act, I'll not snort, insult, or make faces at or about chihuahuas for the rest of the month.

CL - Well, the snake went after the baby because it's red-headed, of course. We always get picked on. And I'm sure Chihuahua-Americans from coast to coast appreciate your gesture of respect.

Hmmm... speaking of "people who categorically hate entire group of animals", where's the journalistic balance in the fact-checking and wording here?

"Booker West was splashing his hands in a birdbath in his grandparents' northern Colorado back yard when the snake slithered up to the toddler, rattled and struck."

Rather than spying his hapless victim from miles away and stalking it sinisterly, the snake was probably lounging in or around the birdbath, was startled by the toddler and then coiled into a "hey, back off!" pose, until the dog jumped into the fray and provoked an all-out rumble -- after which the snake was probably beaten into puree with a shovel. But snake hatas rule the media, *sigh*.

And BTW, I've never before seen a chihuahua with a mullet...

Hmmm...yourself! I don't remember ever checking a "snake-hating" box on any questionnaire. In fact, you may remember that I have been a happy snake owner in the not-so-distant past. Oh, wait, is "owner" an improper term? Was I a snake's "life partner" or "roommate" or "fetcher of worms?"
