Things Don't Go As Planned, But Still Are Pretty Awesome

Sam and Morgan (Tony and Nick, that is) canceled their show tonight. I rode my bike from work all the way down Lincoln to the Apollo Theater and ended up drinking a beer, chatting with Sean Flannery, and sneaking upstairs with Tony and Noah and assorted others to see Wonder Woman take the mic and do her cabaret act. (Seriously. Lynda Carter was playing a concert, backed up by a jazz combo.) Well, I watched for a few minutes and then went back downstairs to the studio space where the guys were sitting in the audience, clicking through the Powerpoint presentation of their show and half-assedly running through their dialogue. It was pretty fun, actually. Steve and Nate, AKA Team Submarine, were also there, and Adam Burke showed up as well.

On the plus side, I rode the crap out of my bike today. Yes, those are my actual legs at left. Pasty, and short, but damned strong. I rode for almost three hours, all told. Biking so much lets me get away with an awesome amount of eating. (Why have I not photoblogged my famous McDonald's-cheeseburger-layered-with-Lay's-potato-chips yet? That stuff is like ambrosia. Manna. Heaven on a starchy, nutritionally pointless bun.) Before the almost-show I had a solitary tuna melt and giant steak fries at Clarke's and worked on some new material for my Underground debut, which is in a few weeks. Things are coming together. Things are happening very fast, but things are definitely coming together. Sorry about the lack of blogging, the three of you who still regularly read me. There's so much going on that needs day-to-day attention. But it will be worth the wait.

In the meantime, one of my childhood idols (yeah, I was Wonder Woman for three Halloweens in a row back in the day), who attracted a very unusual and appreciative demographic at her show tonight:

they didn't do the show b/c no one came? i'm trying to sort out why that might have been. be proactive about the next spitfire show and all, to prevent something like that.

yay biking! i'mma get on mine in a few min to go to the gym!

Yeah, there wasn't enough of a crowd. Not sure if they had done other PR to try to scare up some audience. The show (what I saw of it) was very funny and nicely put together. You probably have more of a grassroots network to reach out to, though.

Yay for strong biking women! ::Eastern European accent:: Ve could crush you vith our thighs!!

i dunno about that grassroots theorem... i always count on that, in my head, but then more often than not there are people at the show that NO ONE knows... and i know we didn't know three-fourths of the people at the last show. :-P i'm wondering if it was Wonder Woman overflow... but no, i doubt that was sold out. i have no idea from where they come! but i don't want them to stop comin'!

dude, the Apollo GM even brought the OWNER down to our show, and they hung out w/ us and NOT Lynda Carter, she was so impressed. HOLLER!

Wow, interesting! They blew off WW for the SFG's. Why wouldn't they?

I was also thinking that Tony and Nick are two people, and there are lots of SpitFire girls (and of course, they have PR genius YOU behind everything).

I'm trying to make a habit of, when I'm working the door and/or handing out candy, asking Underground audience members whether they've been to the show before, and if not, where they heard about it.

I also want to start taking email addresses and sending out emails to fans to keep them coming back. I think we'd be smart to engage the audiences a bit more, make them feel like a part of things, and keep their asses coming back again and again.

HOLLA!!!!!

yeah, you'll have to stay proactive w/ ChUC, methinks... it rests a lot on its laurels now, but that's dangerous to rely on entirely. i know what strategy i use for SpitFire, but i don't know if that's actually the trick or not. i have no idea what is. buscemi and i were talking about it earlier; i'll forward his thoughts on it.

You're right. I don't want to assume anything, and I want to stay ahead of the curve. Who knows what other things might pop up on Tuesday nights over the next year or so?

Who's this Buscemi person you speak of? Does he know anything about Chicago comedy? ::clumsy wink::

Those are some smoking legs girl! I for one would very much appreciate this McDonald's vs. Lays photoshoot! But since you're in Chicago shouldn't you really be using Jay's potato chips?

Hell, dude, I just rode my bike home after yet another long comedy night, and I seriously almost stopped off again for a cheeseburger and potato chip extravaganza. You should have been there.

Loved the Wonder Woman clip! I remember watching that show.

Yeah, Timothy, she was something, huh? I'll say this for her (at age 55 or whatever she is) - she still looks amazing. Amazonian gorgeousness.
