Hometown Girl (Me) Shoves Off, Gets Press

Oh my, things are progressing at quite a disconcerting pace here.

Yes, as I hinted on Twitter, there is some knee-knockingly amazing comedy career news taking shape. I'm going to have to learn a lot in a big hurry and get over more of this shyness. More details forthcoming.

Among recent developments, my hometown paper has profiled me. The headline: "Everybody laughs at the shy girl."

I'm so (typically) embarrassed.

But thank you, Zionsville Times-Sentinel intern Kelly Shaw! You did a bang-up job.

And thank you, Nancy Beckett, for saying such nice things about me.

Yippie!
A Boone County girl makes it in the big city!
Revel in your fabulousness, you deserve it.

Is it true that you graduated from high school in 1990? I seriously thought you were like 24 or 25 years old. Anyways, cheers to that!

Thanks, Nora! And yes, KDuck, it's true, I am a grown woman in my 30's, despite blending in with these young comedy whippersnappers and passing for 20-something. Hey, has anyone seen my Geritol?

Wow, my mind hasn't been blown this much ever since someone on the fifth-grade bus told me that Jimi Hendrix was black. (I think I had been confusing him for someone else - That's what you get when you don't have older sibling to not let you know any better.)

I'll take that as a compliment! I'd like to thank my good German peasant genes, clean and virtuous living, and my conscientious use of sunscreen for my youthful vigor.

Well, that and the blood of virgins I bathe in every other Sunday, giant vats of Botox, and the deal with the devil I struck some years back. That helps, too.

Oh, and, not to heap too much on you at once, but...I'm also black.

Bella Rossa,
Way to go! Local gal goes to the big city and does well. It's all so Mary Tyler Moore'ish.

Congrats on the great article. It's better than being listed on Boone Beat.

That is a great piece...great press indeed! And well-deserved.

Something tells me Intern Shaw won't be an intern for long: she wrote a beautifully structured personality piece about you.

This is SO cool! I'm thrilled for you.

Aw, thanks, Carmi. I think Kelly did a good job too. Interestingly, I never spoke to her on the phone. The whole thing was done (as so things are these days) by e-mail. Not to detract from her hard work at all, but I gave her a lot of carefully written goodies to start with.
